Depression and anxiety as determinants of health-related quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis - United Arab Emirates

A study conducted at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City examined the impact of depression and anxiety on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) in the UAE. Using WHOQOL-BREF, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 scales, researchers assessed 80 patients. Both anxiety and depression correlated strongly with HRQOL, but depression emerged as the strongest predictor in multivariate analysis. The findings emphasize the importance of routine mental health screening and treatment to improve care and quality of life for pwMS.
