Familial vs Sporadic MS in Abu Dhabi

Published on Fri, 10 Apr 2020

Demographic and clinical characteristics of familial and sporadic multiple sclerosis: A single center exploratory study from Abu Dhabi

This single-center exploratory study in Abu Dhabi analyzed 98 MS patients, comparing familial multiple sclerosis (FMS) to sporadic MS (SMS). FMS accounted for 24.5% of cases, with 83% of the patients being Emirati. Results showed no significant differences in demographic or clinical characteristics between FMS and SMS groups, even when analyzing the Emirati cohort separately. The findings suggest further research is needed to identify genetic and environmental factors contributing to familial MS within the Emirati population.
