Simple Cooling Strategy Improves Walking in MS

Background:

A new study found that PwMS were able to walk farther after using a cooling vest before physical activity. In this randomized crossover trial, 15 participants completed two six-minute walk tests: one after wearing a cooling vest for 30 minutes and one without cooling. Those who used the vest before walking covered significantly more distance, with the biggest gains appearing in the final minutes of the test. This suggests that cooling helps delay fatigue, allowing PwMS to sustain movement for longer periods of time. These results highlight cooling vests as a simple, accessible way to support mobility and endurance for PwMS.

Why This Matters to You?

For many PwMS, heat can quickly drain energy and limit walking distances. This study shows that something as simple as using a cooling vest before activity may help you go farther and feel better doing it, offering a practical and empowering tool to stay active with more confidence and comfort.
